A Tree House in Pennsylvania
If you live near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, then you may have seen this tree house featured on Channel 6 Action News with Don Polec. The sassafras trees that support it really whip around when the wind blows, and are relatively soft wood. But the load was spread over 7 support points, and the staircases had their own support, so the tree house was plenty safe enough to have a bunch of people up there. The zip line was one of the first ones we installed in Pennsylvania. To ride it, you have to take a leap off the edge and ride the zip line across the yard, and then coast back to the middle where you hop off. The winding staircase through the trees is one of the most attractive features of this particular tree house design.
A Tree House for the Family
The family has gotten a lot of use out of this tree house. I heard that not long after we finished this tree house, dad had a business meeting up there. The boys, I remember well, were telling their mom that if they got the tree house, then they would do homework up there. Well, that may have happened once or twice, but they also had sleep outs, hundreds of rides down the zip line, and many other adventures along the way. The tree house gave them a view of their race track and pool, so it was the central tower feature of the yard. We've been back to inspect the tree house years after construction, and it was still structurally safe and sound through many a windy day and winter snow load.
