Treehouse near Houston, Texas

This amazing ranch just an hour or two outside of Houston, Texas, was just perfect for a large custom treehouse and zipline. The treehouse was built around the shape of the trees, so that no branches needed to be cut, except the dead ones that we removed for safety. Due to the client's history with Pecan trees on their property, the choice was made not to drill into the trees at all, but to build around them on posts. So after about 3 days of digging through the Texas clay, the foundation for the treehouse was finally ready! We used locally available materials and hired some local carpenters to help with the construction, so the treehouse gave back to the coastal Texas community.

Bridge and Zipline Details

Our favorite treehouse bridge style is a lot of fun, but there is a lot of tension to deal with when people are bouncing out in the middle, especially on the handrail. So, with the span over 40', we decided to build a middle landing on two posts. There are other options when the trees are taller, but in this case, we couldn't use the Texas Pecan trees for the bridge. The zipline, however, was a different story. We opted to wrap a large sling around the trees to displace the tension and avoid girdling. We usually prefer bolting, but this option is okay with regular replacements of the slings. The zipline out of the treehouse is a leap of fun as you glide across the water and land (hopefully) on the other side :)
